Chennai Metro Rail Project

Close on the heels of bagging the Kolkata Metro Rail project, on 4th of March 2009, Egis Rail SA France in a consortium with Egis India Consulting Engineers, AECOM Asia, Yachiyo Engineering Corporation and BARSYL was awarded a contract for General Consultancy Services to Chennai Metro Rail Limited for the first phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. As leading members, Egis companies are leading one of the biggest consultancy contracts ever awarded in India.

Egis India has the responsibility of providing all the local key experts and support engineers and staff as well as managing all the logistics of the project.

The project share of work is divided broadly into civil and structural by AECOM Asia architecture by YEC, systems by Egis Rail and local support professionals for civil, structural, architecture and systems by Egis India and by BARSYL. The alignment covers two lines, one covering approx 23 km from Washermenpet to Airport and the other covering approx 22 km from Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount. Each of these lines shall be partially elevated and partially underground.

The scope of the General Consultancy Services includes procurement, construction supervision, testing and commissioning of the complete Chennai Metro Rail Project, including all civil engineering structures, tracks, signals, telecom facilities, traction and power supply, air conditioning & ventilation, rolling stock, maintenance depots, stations, operation control centre, offices, station integration areas, bridges, flyovers, elevated, surface and underground sections over the project routes, integration with other modes of transport, etc.
