Kolkata East-West Metro Rail Project

In February of 2009, AECOM Asia in consortium partnership with Egis Rail, Yachiyo Engineering Corporation, Consulting Engineering Services and Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects was awarded a contract for General Consultancy Services to Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the Kolkata East West Metro Rail Project. Egis India were chosen as a subconsultant to Egis Rail.

Egis India, as a subconsultant partner to Egis Rail, are responsible for providing all the local key experts and support engineers and staff while Egis Rail provide the international experts.

The project share of work is divided broadly into civil and structural by AECOM Asia and YEC, systems by Egis, architecture by LHPA and additional local support including all logistics by CES.

The alignment covers a short route from Salt Lake in the East to Howrah in the West, covering a total length of 13.7 kms, mostly elevated and only a critical section as underground. The underground section will cross under the Hooghly river.

The scope of the General Consultancy Services includes procurement, construction supervision, testing and commissioning of the complete Kolkata Metro Rail East West Corridor Project, comprising all civil engineering structures, tracks, signals, telecom facilities, traction and power supply, air conditioning & ventilation, rolling stock, maintenance depots, stations, operation control centre, offices, station integration areas, bridges, flyovers, elevated, surface and underground sections over the project routes, integration with other modes of transport, etc.
