Urban Mobility India 2009

Three Egis entities participated in Urban Mobility India 2009 expo organised by the Ministry of Urban Development (MOUD), Government of India through the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India from 3rd Dec 09 to 5th Dec 09.

The programme was attended by state and central urban bodies who are either key stakeholders, key decision makers or consultants in the urban transport scenario in India. A few clients of Egis were among the sponsors of the event.

Egis Group was represented by Egis Rail, Egis Structures / Egis JMI and Egis India. Graphics and branding involving stall design and mailers were organised by Egis India. The Egis contribution was substantial with two stall spaces and delegates visiting from Egis JMI and from Egis Rail to present technical papers in the following areas:

  • Innovative structural design of elevated mass transit systems worldwide: using case studies from Vancouver and Bangkok projects steered by Egis, to illustrate tangible gains to stakeholders by employing innovative structural design concepts in the area of elevated transit systems - Presentation by Ian James, Egis JMI, Bangkok on 4th Dec 09.   • Relevance of Light Rail Transit Systems in India: LRT technology has become in the last decades an important mass transit mode in Europe and resulted in urban rejuvenation, traffic calming and generally a significant progress for many cities in terms of sustainable development. The presentation will consider if LRT and what sort of LRT would be relevant and useful to Indian mega cities and will outline the domains of expertise that European Consultants could bring to promote at grade LRT projects. Beyond the technical expertise , it will be explained why the know how to manage all the interfaces of a mass transit project is considered a domain of expertise of the utmost importance and how a synergy of foreign and local consultants in this field could be reached. - Presentation by Bruno Vantu, Egis Rail, Lyon on 4th Dec 09.
