Techno-Economic Feasibility Study for Delhi Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project

> Description du projet

Feasibility Study for Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has planned to augment the Public Transport System of NCTD by the introduction of a network of Light Railway (LRT) Corridor, in addition to the Delhi Metro, High Capacity Bus System, Mono Rail and other existing or planned systems. Based on demand forecast study for 2021.

The Main consideration in planning the LRT are:

  • Providing a low cost at grade solution with low axle load vehicle to meet maximum PHPDT demand of about 20,000 in the identified corridors as shown below.
  • To act as part of multi-modal integrated network of Public Transport System thereby extending the reach and providing seamless public transport to commuters with in 500m.
  • Negotiability of sharp curves, and steep gradients, and to stay in the middle of the road without the need for acquiring property and minimum cutting of trees. The median or the divider in the middle of the road, the footpaths on both side and the existing facilities should remain undisturbed as far as possible.

Proposed LRT Network:

Phase One of the proposed LRT network for Delhi will comprise the following three corridors (Lines A, B and C), originating from Mehrauli as depicted in the picture.

Line A – Mehrauli to Dwarka Sector 22 via Andheria Mod, Vasant Kunj, Mahipalpur, Rangpuri Pahari, Bharthal Road with an approximate route length of 17.50 km with 10 at-grade and 2 elevated stations

Line B – Mehrauli to Badarpur along the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road with an approximate route length of 11.50 km and 7 at-grade and 3 elevated stations

Line C – Mehrauli to Sachivalaya/Indraprastha via Aurobindo Marg, Siri Fort, August Kranti Marg, Bhishma Pitamaha Marg, Maharshi Ramana Marg, Subrahmania Bharati Marg, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, National Stadium, Tilak Marg and Indraprastha Marg/ITO with an approximate route length of 16.00 km and 15 at-grade and 2 elevated stations

Cost Estimation & Techno-economic and techno financial evaluation

The study involved the following main activities:

  • Review of identified corridors and choice of mode : To assist Egis Rail ( Formerly SEMALY) in appraisal of the mode of transport amongst the alternatives of Monorails, HCBS, the Sky bus, Maglev, AGT or any other mode which is best suited for the corridor based on techno-economic evaluation.
  • Route Alignment: Route Alignment Survey& Design Location of Stations, Depots and other permanent & temporary works, planning norms for the approved corridors.
  • Identify Sources of revenue, including Fare collection with anticipated revenues under various scenarios of materializing these revenue sources.
  • Cost Estimation & Techno-economic and techno financial evaluation of the project.
  • Project Implementation and Procurement Strategy: To assist Egis Rail to recommend construction and procurement strategy including type, no. and size of Contract Packages to ensure Project Implementation by the target date.
  • Environmental & Rehabilitation / Resettlement Issues :
  • To assist Egis Rail in Preparation of Technical and Performance Specification of all the systems, suitable of tendering
