Under Government of India’s prestigious Smart City Mission, Chandigarh, one of the Union Territories of India, was selected in the Fast Track Round of Smart City. “The city beautiful is envisioned to become leader in livability, sustainability, equality and innovation”. The city has proposed to implement several Area Based Development (ABD) and Pan City Projects as part of Smart City Proposal (SCP). In this regard, to implement the projects, a special purpose company called Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) was formed and the same invited bids for Project Management Consultancy. Egis in India participated in the competitive bidding process along with other reputed multinational companies and was awarded the project.
The team at Chandigarh is being led by Mr. Arun Kumar Singh, Urban planner and urban Infrastructure specialist with more than 25 years of experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team. The sub-domains such as Urban Planning & Architecture is led by Mr. Sulabh Goel, Civil and Infrastructure is led by Mr. Satwant Singh, Public Finance & Procurement – Mr. Kuldeep Singh and Information & Communication Technology- Mr. Ravish Kumar & Ashish Sharma. As Project Management Consultant (PMC) for implementing projects, Egis carried out Feasibility, Detailed Design, Engineering and Project Management of implementation of various Sub-Projects, around 36 different projects, across various domains such as Urban Mobility, Urban Solid Waste Management, Urban Water and Waste Water Management, IT & ICT. These services are being provided by dedicated Egis Project Team at Chandigarh.
Amongst the various mega-projects being conceptualised and developed by team Egis for Chandigarh Smart City Limited, one of the completed projects include operation of Battery Operated Cart for elderly and disabled in Sec 17 Plaza space in CBD area of Chandigarh. The service is free of cost and help serves the purpose of last mile connectivity for people of visiting CBD area.
The most prominent projects which are being implemented by Team Egis in Chandigarh Include Public Bike Sharing, E-governance Services, Integrated Command Centre with host of services such as ITMS, ANPR, RLVD, ATCS, digital signage system, Smart Schools, Legacy Mining of Municipal Waste, 24 x 7 Water supply system.
Public Bike Sharing System is one of most ambitious and the largest network of 5000 bicycle being planned by any city municipality in India on PPP mode with zero cost to exchequer. The project’s Unique Selling Proposition (USP) is the introduction of technically sound E-bikes at same fare as that of standard bicycle along with 24 x 7 GPS based monitoring and automated fare collection system. Egis team has excelled in creating a scalable robust project for facilitating the citizens of Chandigarh and promoting a sustainable mode of transportation.
Team Egis, for the 24 x 7 Water Supply project, has undertaken detailed design of 76 km of pipeline network and proposed smart metering to enhance city revenue for self sustainability of the project.
Implementation of Smart School & Minor Sports Infrastructure in School includes state of art computer labs, smart boards and E-Content for studies and improved sports infrastructure in Schools. Egis team have conceptualised and implemented projects on integrated solid waste management including processing of 5 lakhs metric tonnes of legacy waste and segregating it for recycling and re-use purpose. Other projects also include Material Recovery Facility cum Garbage Transfer Station at various location in Chandigarh.
The city has initiated implementation of sub-surface underground utility mapping for its city limit for which Egis team is providing their technical inputs on ground and management of the project.
The city management is further strengthened by E-governance projects which promote ease of doing business and facilitate citizen-centric services to enable access at the comfort of their home. Egis team has worked on implementation of Online building plan system, E-office & Dashboard, finance and Audit for Municipality.
Chandigarh City shall also soon be setting up Integrated Command Centre for which Team Egis has undertaken core planning and integrated engineering services for building works and conceptualised implementation of City Surveillance System and host of other services such as E-Challan System ITMS, ANPR, RLVD, ATCS, digital signage system, city wide dedicated optical fibre network.
