The State of Uttarakhand is renowned primarily for its pilgrimage destinations as well as experiential tourism like adventure tourism, leisure, etc. In 2013, significant parts of the State were devastated due to heavy torrential rains leading in loss of personal and civic infrastructure property. Disaster relief was provided and evacuation efforts were coordinated to rescue more than 0.1 million of tourists and pilgrims stranded in disaster areas.
The project, funded by Asian Development Bank, consists of designing, planning and construction supervision of 60 helipads/ heliports along with multi-purpose hall/ shelters integrated in the vicinity of these helipads. Accomplished over 27 months, the project would be carried out in multiple phases and packages which are as follows:
1) Construction supervision of the works of 19 helipad site locations (DPRs of which are prepared by Preparatory Consultants)
2) Design, planning and construction supervision of balance 41 helipad site locations (25 Helipads, 12 Heliports and 4 Helidromes)
3) Design, planning and construction supervision of 60 multi-purpose hall/shelters integrated in the vicinity of these helipads
The project would establish an aviation infrastructure that will enable rapid evacuation of pilgrims, tourists and locals during natural calamities and help the State in build its disaster preparedness.
Egis in JV with IIDC Ltd., will provide consultancy services over a period of 27 months and will help Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority in building an aviation infrastructure that will help in rescue and evacuation of people in case of any future natural calamities. The project consists of preparing DPRs. procurement of goods and services, project management of construction activities across 60 locations, providing social and environmental safeguards due diligence as well as developing operation, maintenance and management framework for each helipad location.
