Project overview

Trichy is the fourth largest municipal corporation and the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the State of Tamil Nadu. The city is an important educational centre in the state of Tamil Nadu with wellknown educational institutions. It is also the base of large heavy industries such as BHEL, Golden Rock Railway Workshop, and Ordnance Factory and is known as the "Energy equipment and fabrication capital of India" due to the presence of large number of energy equipment manufacturing units in and around the city. Thus Trichy has educational and economic importance in Tamil Nadu.

To cater to travel of such diverse population in educational and business sectors, Trichy International Airport serves as a key transportation hub connecting travellers between Trichy mainly to Chennai and and to cities in Middle East and South East Asia.

The passenger traffic in Trichy has growth at the CAGR of 16% since 2008 from 0.4 MPPA in 2008 to 1.35 MPPA in 2015. The jump in traffic came after 2012 when the airport was declared international in 2012.

The forecasted passenger traffic is expected to reach 3.52 MPPA in 2025/26 @ a CAGR of 10%.

A new integrated passenger terminal building was built in 2009 with a two floor area of 11,777 sqm. The old terminal has been converted into international cargo complex and new terminal caters to more than 85% of international passengers and rest for domestic passengers. The proposed integrated terminal will be constructed over a vacant land.

Our missions

The objective of this project is to deliver a world class passenger terminal building and associated infrastructure which has the following components:

  •  Passenger terminal building: Two level integrated terminal building having an area of 60,723 sqm + basement with airside corridor for new contact stand and city side approach road. The PTB shall be equipped with airport and building engineering systems that are suitable for world class airports
  • An elevated road in front of the building
  • Suggest/Incorporate the location  to develop additional 10 in-contact bays for code ‘C’ type of aircraft with associate link taxiways, GSE area etc. 
  • City side development works : Concept planning of city side hospitality district including road and car parking and Multi model transport connectivity integration system. Location of Hospitality District on city side comprising hotels for passengers, malls/ infotainment park and food court, Multilevel Car Park etc.

 Egis will provide services from concept to commissioning i.e. design the passenger terminal concept, prepare tender documents, assist Airport Authority of India in selection of contractor and carry out construction project  management and supervision.
