On 1 April 2020, in spite of nationwide lockdown Egis Road Operation India has successfully commissioned the Routine Road Maintenance and Repair Maintenance works, Route Operations, and Incident Management Services at Ahmedabad-Mehsana road (Gujarat)a four-lane expressway that stretches 51.6 km from the outskirts of the State capital Ahmedabad to Mehsana. Traffic on this motorway is around 37,000 vehicles per day.

During this critical Covid-19 pandemic situation work at project is being carried out with strict safety measures like wearing masks, frequent use of sanitizers and hand wash, temperature checking of whole team at the start of shift and most importantly all operational plans have been made to follow the protocol of social distancing.

Egis Road Operation team is fully dedicated and fulfilling all the client requirements even in such a crucial time.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project is undertaken by The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to decongest the traffic in Mumbai. The MCRP (South) extends from Princes Street Flyover to Worli End of Bandra Worli Sea Link and is divided into three packages; We are the Project Management Consultants to the Package II. Package II has about 8 lane highway including 25Ha reclamation, Sea Bridge connecting to existing BWSL and one major Trumpet Type Interchange along with 2.8Km associated ramps. 

The GoI imposed a nationwide Lockdown to prevent the spread of this deadly COVID-19 Virus. However, the establishments providing essential services are excluded/ relaxation given from the lockdown.

Mumbai coastal road project works are executing in the marine, therefore high risk during monsoon. As a part of pre-monsoon work, the projects works have been carrying out with utmost priority since 1st April 2020. 

On an average 350 staffs and works are deployed at site on each day which includes Contractor’s and PMC’s staffs and works. The strength of the manpower considerably reduced due to the COVID-19 effects.

Project Update

The DPR and bid documents for project implementation on EPC mode is completed and approved by the competent Authority. Environment clearance and 1st stage forest clearance is obtained. Estimate for utility shifting from concerned departments are obtained and utility shifting work is in progress at site. More than 95% of the required land is already acquired. EPC Contractors and Authority Engineers for all six construction packages are mobilized at site and construction work is undergoing following the safety directions/guidelines during this lockdown period.

Construction activities resumed amidst lockdown

Purvanchal Expressway

Egis is the consultant for the project as the Authority’s Engineer for supervision of Package I to Package IV (164.57 Km).

When the whole country is facing this extended lockdown till  May 17 due to COVID-19 pandemic, with some relaxation, construction activity in some of the infrastructure sector has been opened up. Purvanchal Expressway is one such project.

Construction in all the eight packages of  Purvanchal Expressway is started on entire stretch of 340 Km with the support of State Government, the client UP Expressway and Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), and the support of the contractor who has taken care of the basic needs of the construction site workers. This has been made possible by the workers available at site. Team Egis at the site is taking strict precautionary measures like social distancing, wearing masks, sanitization etc. to facilitate the work without exposing the workers at high risk from COVID19.

Presently, more than 5000 workers are working at site in all the eight packages. The strength of workers before the lockdown was 10,000, of which half returned to their native districts due to the COVID 19 threat. 

Team Egis working on the project is fully committed to support the client and the state administration to keep this project running and play its role in kick-starting the economy.

Laurent Germain to be appointed Chief Executive Officer of Egis


Nicolas Jachiet, the Chairman and CEO of the Egis Group, has announced his retirement and is to leave the Group on 31 October 2020.

For the appointment of his successor, an open selection process was conducted which attracted several high-quality candidatures from inside and outside the Group. At the end of this procedure, the Caisse des Dépôts, the majority shareholder of Egis, decided to recommend the appointment of Laurent Germain, currently the Chief Executive Officer of Segula Technologies, as Egis’ Chief Executive Officer. This appointment will be approved at a future meeting of the Board of Directors and Laurent Germain will join the Group on 2 July.

Nicolas Jachiet, Chairman & CEO of Egis, said: “I take great pride in the growth and international development accomplished by Egis’s teams throughout the 15 years during which I have led the Group. While I have made a personal choice to retire, I look forward to supporting Laurent Germain in the coming months so as to lay the foundations for a transition that is beneficial to Egis. Our leading priority will naturally be to pursue the actions that we have initiated to respond to today’s public health and economic crisis, whilst guaranteeing the safety of our employees and our business continuity for our clients. The Caisse des Dépôts will also propose the appointment of Paul-Marie Chavanne, already an Egis Director, as non-executive Chairman of Egis’s Board of Directors. Following a wide-ranging career in industry, Paul-Marie Chavanne has been Chairman of the Geopost group for the past 20 years, a position that he will soon be leaving.

Laurent Germain, 48, is currently Chief Executive Officer of Segula Technologies. Holding degrees from the ESSEC business school and Sciences Po Paris, he is also a graduate of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (2000). Following several positions at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, in 2004 he became Adviser to the Minister for Research, Mr. François d’Aubert, in charge of budgetary affairs. The following year he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the French National Centre of Space Studies (CNES), where he made a significant contribution to transforming project management. He also chaired the board of CLS, a subsidiary of CNES, which he helped to develop and where he coordinated the arrival of Ardian as a private shareholder. In 2014 he joined Segula Technologies, a global engineering and technology consulting group. As CEO, he has overseen strong growth in the Group (more than doubling its size in 6 years), in particular outside France, with a specific focus on innovation.

Paul-Marie Chavanne, 68, is currently Chairman of the Geopost group. An engineering graduate from the Ecole Centrale de Paris and an alumnus of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, he is an ’Inspecteur des Finances’ and began his career with an 11-year spell at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance. Over a 31-year period, Paul-Marie Chavanne has since held top management positions in several industrial groups (Autodistribution, Strafor Facom and Citroën). In 2001, he became Chairman and CEO of Geopost, the express parcel delivery service of the La Poste Group, which under his leadership became the second largest express courier firm in Europe.

Chandigarh Smart City recently announced the introduction of Battery Operated Carts for Elderly and Differently Abled, Sector-17. The project was inaugurated by H.E Shri. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of U.T. Chandigarh on 20th January 2020 in presence of Shri Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator and Shri Kamal Kishore Yadav, IAS, Commissioner  Municipal Corporation- Chandigarh.


Chandigarh Green Transportation Initiatives

Chandigarh as a Smart City, has a vision for encouraging public safety and security for the people of the city which is essential to achieve the goal of making the city liveable with a safe transportation system. One of the basic goals is to introduce a model of sustainability and low-carbon mobility options with innovative transportation solutions ensuring last-mile connectivity (through battery operated vehicles, Public Bike Sharing programs), elderly & handicap friendly public spaces. The project ‘Battery operated carts for elderly and differently abled’ has been completed at the cost of INR 0.47 cr. It is envisaged that with the introduction this facility for elderly and differently abled visitors will ease their movement within market area will be further simplified. The aims to provide seamless connectivity in the city centre of sec 17 by substituting it with non- polluting and non-motorized public transport. This service will be more focused in ensuring comfort and convenience to population belonging to certain demographic profile, however, it will play a major role in enhancing the mobility at large in the city centre and a different experience for people visiting sector-17.

Some of the key highlights of the project are mentioned below:

The service of Battery operated carts is free of cost and will help in improving the accessibility in the plaza space for elderly and differently abled and ferry them around the market area based on their requirement. The service hours are from 8.00 AM to 8: 00 PM.

  1. The E-cart vehicles will be plying in plaza spaces in Sec 17. Routes have been identified for operation of battery operated carts considering the footfall, pedestrian network, parking spots and availability of space for operation. Major landmarks covered are Neelam Cinema, Bank square and Multi-Level Car Parking. The frequency of availability of carts for the users is at interval of every 10 minutes in to and fro direction.
  2. The Parking cum Charging station for the carts has been built at Multi-Level Car Parking, Sector-17.
  3. The features in these carts include GPS tracking, LED screen, speakers, magazine holder for information dissemination related to initiatives/ important information by various government institutions.
  4. The carts engaged in this service have safety features such as fire extinguisher, first aid kit and speed governor to regulate the speed of the cart to less than 20 kmph to ensure safety of the pedestrians.

The project is the first of its kind as it introduces the use of battery operated carts as a feeder service in plaza space. Additionally, the project can be scaled up to serve the purpose of feeder services from bus stop to important destinations. Furthermore, the same can be interlinked with CTU services through mobile based applications.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik inaugurated and dedicated the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located at CDA to the people of Cuttack on 05.12.2018. The STP is a part of INR 3,000 crore JICA assisted Odisha Integrated Sanitation Improvement Project, which aims to improve the sewerage and drainage facilities in Cuttack and the sewerage facility in Bhubaneswar Sewerage District VI. The project will benefit around 11 lakh population in Cuttack in next 30 years. The STP is of 36 MLD capacity.

 The Chief Minster also inaugurated the Drainage Pump Station at Police Colony, which has a discharge capacity of 2 Cubic Meters per Sec, which will mitigate flooding during rainy season in its catchment area of Cuttack. Another STP at Matagajapur (16 MLD) along with four other Drainage Pump Stations shall be operational in few months making services available in the remaining areas of the city.

 Cuttack is going to get a facelift as the picture of sewerage and drainage systems in this city is being transformed under the project.

 Among others, State level Hon’ble Ministers, Local political leaders, Addl. Secretary, D.E.A., Ministry of Finance, Government of India, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha, Chief Representative, JICA, Chief Engineer, OISIP, JICA, OWSSB were also present during the inauguration.  Egis team attended the inauguration function of JICA Assisted project in Cuttack, Odisha, India Inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik on 05.12.2018.

Egis Group may open a Global Design Centre in India. Plans to increase its presence in India

Egis, the Paris headquartered global engineering company, today announced Sandeep Gulati as the new Managing Director for Egis India. Sandeep has more than 24 years of varied experience and was previously Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei.
